Precipitated silica is a silica product produced by chemical precipitation. Its main component is SiO2, which usually exists in a
hydrated form with a molecular formula of SiO2·nH2O. This silica has a white amorphous powdery appearance, is light and loose,
insoluble in water and most acids (except hydrofluoric acid), but soluble in sodium hydroxide and hydrofluoric acid.
The production process of precipitated silica usually includes the following steps: first, prepare raw materials such as sodium silicate
or natural minerals containing silicates; then, mix these raw materials with inorganic acids (such as sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid)
and react at a certain temperature to form silicate precipitates; then, through filtering, washing and drying, pure precipitated silica
products are obtained.
Precipitated silica is widely used in many industries, including rubber, feed, toothpaste industry, paint, battery separators, etc. Among
them, the rubber industry is its largest consumer market, especially tire and shoe rubber, accounting for 68% of the total production.
In addition, precipitated silica is also used in medicine, pesticides, solid fire-fighting materials, agriculture, feed, coatings, inks and
papermaking.
In the preparation process, sulfuric acid precipitation is a common and economical method. This method uses industrial water glass
and sulfuric acid as the main raw materials, and prepares high-structure silica slurry by adding appropriate dispersants and crystal
control agents, and then obtains Silica Powder after filtering and drying. This method has the characteristics of cheap and easy raw
materials, mild reaction conditions, low production cost, short process, and easy industrial application.
Due to its chemical inertness and stability to chemical agents, precipitated silica can significantly improve the mechanical properties
of rubber products and play an important role in many fields.
