What benifits will high purity silica Matting Agent provide to coating?

High purity silica matting agent is a common additive with matte effect that is used in wood coating. Usually silica matting 

agent is a chemical combination material. When higher content silicon dioxide has, higher purity silica matting agent has. 

The main target of silica matting agent that is used in coating is to decrease its glossy and brightness. It can also help to 

provide more subtle and natural look.

High purity SiO2 matting agents are commonly used in waterborne and solventborne wood coatings where they can be easily 

dispersed into coating formulations. They are also known for their excellent transparency and clarity, making them suitable for 

both clear and pigmented wood coatings.

What features should silica matting agent have?

Silica matting agent should have characters as below.

* Easy to disperse

* High matte effect: adding small quantity silica matting agent can create strong matte effect.

* Small influences in coatings: adding silica matting agent will not effect coating's chemical properties

and mechanical properties.

* Good suspension performance: adding silica matting agent will not make coating caking due to its excellent suspension. 

And it can be stored for a long time too.

* High chemical inertness: adding silica matting agent into coating will not effect its flow properties too. When silica matting 

agent has features like mentioned can be used widely in coating's industries. Silica matting agent has high chemical purity and 

it will not disperse in water, various organic solvents and general  acids,bases. It only acts with concentrated alkali and hydrofluoric 

acid. Normally its reflection value is 1.46. Comparing with resin's reflection value that used in coating, silica matting agent's 

reflection value is similar with it. And this is the reason why silica matting agent's transparency is excellent. Wax-treated silica 

matting agents do not produce hard precipitates in solvent-based coatings during storage. Because they are porous materials, 

low addition levels can produce strong matting properties.
