What is precipitated silica?
Precipitated silica is commonly known as white carbon black, also known as hydrated silicic acid, light silica, and its chemical expression is
generally written as mSiO2·nH2O. It is a white, highly dispersed amorphous powder, and is also processed into granules as a commodity.
The specific gravity is 2.319-2.653, and the melting point is 1750℃. It is insoluble in water and most acids, and will become aggregated fine
particles after absorbing moisture in the air. It can be dissolved in caustic soda and hydrofluoric acid. It is stable to other chemicals, resistant to
high temperatures, does not decompose, and does not burn. It has high electrical insulation, porosity, large internal surface area, water absorption,
and is non-toxic. Do you know what effects the surface properties of precipitated silica have? Let's learn about it together.
Precipitated silica is easy to bring in impurities such as Cu, Fe, and Mn during the preparation process. Although these trace impurities have little
effect on the physical properties of the rubber, in order to make silicone rubber products have excellent antioxidant and aging resistance, the
content of Cu, Fe, and Mn is still required to be reduced to a certain limit. In this regard, GB 10517 stipulates for precipitated silica: Cu≤30 mg/kg,
Mn≤50 mg/kg, Fe≤1000 mg/kg.
Sodium salt in the production of precipitated silica is difficult to avoid in production, but too high sodium content is not suitable for use as a
reinforcing filler for silicone rubber, and the transparency of the rubber is obviously poor. However, in the production process, the reaction synthesis
process is well controlled to prevent the formation of gel containing too much Na and strengthen the rinsing of the semi-finished slurry. The sodium
salt content can be reduced to below 0.5%. Such precipitated silica has little effect on the performance of the rubber.
How to use silica matting agent into economical paint?
Silicon dioxide (SiO2) is a widely used material for economical automatic coating due to its excellent optical and mechanical properties. SiO2 is a
transparent, hard, and chemically stable material that has a high refractive index and low absorption coefficient in the visible and near-infrared regions.
These properties make it an ideal candidate for optical coatings that require high reflectivity and low absorption.
SiO2 coatings can be deposited using various techniques such as thermal evaporation, sputtering, and plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition
(PECVD). PECVD is a popular technique for depositing SiO2 coatings due to its low cost, high deposition rate, and excellent film uniformity. PECVD SiO2
coatings can be deposited on a wide range of substrates, including glass, plastics, and metals.
SiO2 coatings can be used for various applications such as anti-reflection coatings, high reflectivity mirrors, and optical filters. Anti-reflection coatings are
widely used in optical devices such as cameras, microscopes, and telescopes to reduce unwanted reflections and increase the transmission of light. High
reflectivity mirrors are used in laser systems, optical cavities, and solar cells to reflect light efficiently. Optical filters are used in various applications such
as color displays, fluorescence microscopy, and spectroscopy to selectively transmit or block specific wavelengths of light.
In conclusion, SiO2 is an excellent material for economical automatic coating due to its excellent optical and mechanical properties. SiO2 coatings can be
deposited using various techniques, and they can be used for various applications such as anti-reflection coatings, high reflectivity mirrors, and optical filters.
