What are the treatment methods and effects of matting powder?
If the particles are too large, the surface of the paint film will be too rough, affecting the feel and appearance. Choose products with higher
porosity (pore volume). The larger the porosity, the higher the unit weight of powder content will be, and the better the matting performance
will be. The smaller the average particle size of the Matting Agent, the better the transparency, but the corresponding matting power will also
decrease. It should be pointed out that too high a fine powder content will have a negative impact on transparency.
The influence of particle size on the application performance of silica matting agent
Since silica matting agent has excellent properties, it has become a widely used matting agent in matte coatings. Silica is a solid particle. No
matter what manufacturing process it goes through, it cannot be composed of a single particle size, but fluctuates within a certain particle size
range and forms a certain pattern. Different particle sizes have different probabilities of appearance. The powder has good particle uniformity
and good application performance. This article studies in detail the influence of the average particle size and distribution of silica powder on the
application performance of silica, which has certain practical guiding significance for the selection of matting agent in coating production.
Performance study
1. Matting property
Weigh a certain amount of main paint, add the prepared Curing Agent, adjust the viscosity to 15-20s with the formula thinner, and then spray it on
the wood board. After the paint film is naturally dry, use a 60° gloss meter to test.
2. Transparency
Weigh a certain amount of wood varnish, add a small amount of matting powder, disperse it evenly with a high-speed disperser, pour it into a 125mL
white wide-mouth bottle, and observe the transparency with the naked eye.
3. Anti-sedimentation property
Precipitation rate: Add 5% matting powder to butyl acetate, disperse it evenly with a disperser, pour it into a 125mL white wide-mouth bottle and
observe its sedimentation rate. Storage stability: Place the prepared main paint in an oven at 50℃ for 15d, observe the precipitation volume, and
test the hardness of the precipitation with an ink knife.
Why using silica dioxide powder in matte paper coating?
Silica dioxide powder is a non-reflective paint additive material that can be used to reduce the reflectivity of painted surfaces. It is a fine white
powder made from silicon dioxide, which is a naturally occurring compound found in quartz, sand, and many other minerals.
When added to paint, silica dioxide powder scatters and diffuses light, reducing the amount of light that is reflected off the painted surface. This
can be useful in applications where reflective surfaces are undesirable, such as in photography studios, theaters, or any other environment where
glare or unwanted reflections need to be minimized.
Silica dioxide powder is typically mixed with paint in small amounts, usually around 1-5% by weight, depending on the desired level of reflectivity
reduction. It can be added to both water-based and oil-based paints without affecting their color or consistency.
In addition to its non-reflective properties, silica dioxide powder also provides other benefits when used as a paint additive. It can improve the durability
and scratch resistance of the painted surface, as well as enhance the paint's resistance to moisture and UV radiation.
Overall, silica dioxide powder is a versatile and effective additive for reducing reflectivity in paint. Its non-reflective properties, along with its other benefits,
make it a popular choice for various applications where minimizing glare and unwanted reflections is important.
