What is Matting Agent?

Matting agent refers to an additive used to eliminate the gloss of paint. When the paint containing matting agent dries, the 

matting agent particles will form a slightly rough surface on the paint film surface. When the incident light reaches the rough 

surface, the reflection direction of the light will change, thus producing a low gloss appearance and achieving the purpose of 

matting.

Silica Matting Agent, how do they create a matte surface on advertising film coating?

When coating is painted on the objects, silica matting agent will disperse evenly on the wet coating.When the coating is dry, the 

coating's smooth and glossy surface will become matte surface due to the coating's self shrinkage. This shrinkage is the main 

reason to cause a rough surface. Following with the formulation, normal shrinkage volume of coating is 30% to 60% of the wet 

coating cubes.

It is important to note that conventional coatings are relatively easy to matte because the film shrinks due to emissions as it hardens, 

but solvent-free and 100% solid systems (such as radiation-cured coatings, powder coatings, etc.) are difficult to matte.
